Even some of the early diesels are now becoming a sight of the past.
This has lead to an emerging preservation scene saving some of the pioneering and early diesel traction for the younger generation to enjoy.
There are approximately 280 preserved mainline diesel locomotives in the UK based on
various privately owned railways, as well as a few running on the main rail system.
